Abstract

Introduction: The Social Economy organizations as economic agents are increasingly recognized in the context of the European Union, due to the importance of employment and wealth created in the service level.

In the present context of global crisis the third sector seems to gain new space and new attention, similarly to what has been happening since the first advanced ideas for a social economy, arising precisely from the crisis experienced by the workers of the nineteenth century. In this context, and given the values and principles that ideally govern the social economy, it is studying Human Resource Management that can occupy an important role, since it is considered that due to the nature of the work of these organizations, people are his most important and, as such, how each organization manages its human resources assets may influence organizational performance. The effectiveness and efficiency are increasingly a priority in these organizations face the economic downturn and reduced its funding by the state.

Objectives: To characterize the Human Resource Management in Organizations of the Social Economy.

Method: To perform a systematic review of the literature on this topic using scientific database.

Results: The study highlights the importance of Human Resource Management in Organizations of the Social Economy in Portugal. The analysis of this specific context can bring outstanding results for a sector whose importance is crucial and growing.

Conclusions: In this phase of increasing professionalization, the Social Economy Organizations can take advantage of important improvements are bet on policies, processes and best practices in HRM. Furthermore, a strong focus on HRM may be an important differential element in a sector that has increasingly competitive and concerned with improving their performance.
